Mr. Md. Obaidul Hoque
Managing Director & CEO
Mr. Md. Obaidul Hoque joined Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited as the Managing Director & CEO on April 9, 2026.
Prior to this appointment, he served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Janata Bank PLC starting from April 29, 2025, where he was also a Member of the Executive Committee. Earlier, he held the position of Principal at the NRBC Bank Training Institute until May 4, 2025.
Mr. Hoque holds a Master of Commerce (M.Com) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Marketing from the University of Dhaka. He completed his Higher Secondary Certificate from Dhaka College and his Secondary School Certificate from Daulatkhan Government High School. He obtained his DAIBB (Banking Diploma) from the Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh in 1991, where he also served as an Examiner.
With over three decades of professional experience, Mr. Hoque has built a distinguished career, primarily with Bangladesh Bank. During his tenure, he held several key positions across multiple departments, ultimately serving as Executive Director. In this role, he led the SME & Special Programmes Department and acted as Project Director of the Second Small and Medium Sized Enterprise Development Project (SMEDP-2).
Earlier in his career, he contributed to critical areas including on-site banking supervision, currency management, administration, and foreign exchange policy and inspection. He also served as Head of the Khulna Office of Bangladesh Bank and held positions such as General Manager, Deputy General Manager, Joint Director, Deputy Director, and Assistant Director.
Born on October 23, 1963, in Bhola, Mr. Hoque has participated in numerous international training programs and workshops. These include training on Balance Sheet Analysis and Risk-Based Supervision conducted by the World Bank, as well as courses on Policy Evaluation and Impact Assessment sponsored by the European Union, held in countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. He is also a certified “Trainer of the Trainers” in the CMSME sector under a European Union program.
Mr. Hoque brings a wealth of experience in central banking, project leadership, and professional training to his leadership role.
MR. MOHAMMAD ZIAUL KARIM
Deputy Managing Director-1
The esteemed banking professional Mr. Mohammad Ziaul Karim, Deputy Managing Director (DMD-01), has assumed the Current Charge of the Office of the Managing Director & CEO of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited (BCBL) with effect from 31 July 2025, in accordance with the provisions of Section 15KA(1) of the Banking Companies Act, 1991.
Prior to this assignment, Mr. Karim was serving as Deputy Managing Director (DMD-01) of the Bank. Notably, he had also previously held the Current Charge of the Managing Director & CEO from 20 October 2024 to 15 January 2025.
Mr. Mohammad Ziaul Karim joined Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited as an Executive Vice President (EVP) on 14 January 2019, and was later promoted to Deputy Managing Director on 20 October 2024, concurrently assuming the Current Charge of MD & CEO during that period. He began his banking career with Social Islami Bank Limited on 16 July 2000. Over a distinguished career spanning 25 years, Mr. Karim has accumulated extensive experience across all major areas of banking, including Corporate and SME Credit/Investment, International Finance, Loan Recovery, Foreign Trade Operations, Branch Management, and Treasury Operations.
Born into a noble Muslim family on January 1, 1970, in Cox’s Bazar District, Mr. Mohammad Ziaul Karim holds both B.S.S. (Hons.) and M.S.S. degrees in Political Science from Dhaka University (DU). Over the course of his career, he has held several key leadership positions, including Deputy Managing Director, Chief Risk Officer, Head of Credit Management Division, Head of Investment Division, and Branch Manager. Mr. Karim has also actively participated in and contributed to numerous training programs, workshops, and seminars on various aspects of banking—both in Bangladesh and abroad.
